Despite the subject matter having a serious edge at times, Mounts writing has a very warm feel that brought me closer to Mallory and Brandon and I felt I was routing for their relationship very early on. There are obstacles along the way, as you would expect, but I found this to be a fulfilling read that has disconcerting moments but overall an uplifting feel. My first experience of Misty Mount books, but Im now keen on reading more. 5 stars from me.This was one of those stories that takes its time to wrap around around you, almost without you knowing. Most of the characters, including the heroine start out being presented in the worst light, showing their flaws in ways that hold you at you at a distance. However, those flaw make them real and relate-able and before you know it, you have bonded with them, even the bratty children and brooding father. With characters that often seem out of their depth from Mallory to Brendan, the plot revolves around coming to terms with grief and building a new life. Wow. I really became engrossed in this book in a way that I haven't been in so long. I found myself a little disappointed at the end, only because it was over. If I had more time I would have likely read the book in a couple of days, but it's just as well since I enjoyed the feeling of suspense that stayed with me in between savoring every little bit of spare time I could find to delve back into the mystery.
